MARU’s stopIslamophobia.ca initiative is in the process of building a British Columbia Plan to Stop Islamophobia. stopracialprofiling.ca is our host site.

As a part of this process, we are holding two (2) Student Consultations for students in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley regions of British Columbia between the ages of 18-30 on November 23 and 30, 2026 in the evenings. The two sessions are interconnected and physical presence (no virtual option) is required at both sessions. A fee of $250 per session, inclusive of taxes, will be paid to each participant with a total fee of $500 for attendance at both sessions.

We are seeking a group of ten (10) students who self-identify as Muslim.

The Application process begins on October 17, 2026 and will continue on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. When the positions are filled, we will post announcements on our social media channels and on this website.

These consultations are held in partnership with Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies (SFU-CCMS) and both consultations will be held, in person, at SFU’s Harbour Centre location in Downtown Vancouver.

The application process consists of the following steps:

  1. Each interested student should fill out the form at this link: tinyurl.com/Student-Engagement-Sessions
  2. From those who fill our the form and apply, a short list of student applicants will be created and short listed applicants will then be interviewed (via scheduled virtual video interviews)(about 15-30 minutes in duration).
  3. After the interviews are completed, the final list of student applicants will be contacted to inform them of their selection.

Once the consultation sessions are concluded, MARU plans to post a “what we heard” summary document on this site and to post it via our various social media and other channels.
