Canada's Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, Amira Elghawaby, today released "The Canadian Guide to Understanding and Combatting Islamophobia: For a more inclusive Canada".

Among its key strategies is: "Share resources, support networks and advocacy tools help communities prevent and dismantle discriminatory practices."

Stopislamophobia.ca is launching its 'Reporting Islamophobia' education and outreach campaign this month in Greater Vancouver and across British Columbia. "This guide, which provides an overview of Islamophobia in Canada, along with practical strategies, is much needed", says Zool Suleman, Executive Director of the MARU Society which hosts the stopislamophobia.ca initiative.

Canadians need to better understand Islamophobia and build solidarities between communities. The MARU Society has been working to stop Islamophobia since 2004, soon after the events of 9/11.
